Who's On Tour With Hippiefest?
21-Date Tour Celebrates The 40th Anniversary Of The Summer Of Love
The second annual Hippiefest celebrates the fortieth anniversary of the Summer of Love with performances by 60’s and 70’s icons The Turtles, Felix Cavaliere's Rascals, The Zombies, Mountain, Mitch Ryder, Badfinger, Country Joe McDonald, Iron Butterfly, Denny Laine and Melanie.
THE TURTLES
The Turtles were one of the most dynamic American pop bands of the 1960s. They evolved from folk-rock to a blend of chamber pop and pop-rock, highlighted by soaring vocal harmonies. 1967 proved to be the Turtles' most successful year on the pop charts as “Happy Together” replaced the Beatles’ “Penny Lane” at #1.

FELIX CAVALIERE’S RASCALS
Unlike many other “blue-eyed soul” bands, The Rascals wrote most of their own material. They were also unique for their wide range of influences, including British Invasion bands, psychedelic rock, gospel, and even jazz and Latin music. The Rascals’ signature song “Groovin” reached #1 on the pop charts in the early part of the Summer of Love.

THE ZOMBIES
The Zombies were known for their signature jazz-influenced arrangements and choral harmonies. The band formed in London in the early 1960s but had its greatest success overseas. “Time of the Season” became the group’s biggest hit in 1969.

COUNTRY JOE MCDONALD
Psychedelic folk-rock band Country Joe and the Fish were the most vocal group of the 1960s to address political and ecological issues in their music. Their performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 was featured in the film
“The Complete Monterey Pop Festival.” In Country Joe’s 40+ year career, he has recorded 33 albums.

MOUNTAIN
Loud, adventurous and highly influential, Mountain was one of the leading hard rock bands of its time. The group struck gold with their 1970 debut ‘Mountain Climbing!’ featuring the classic rock epic “Mississippi Queen.”

MITCH RYDER
Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels brought new energy to blue-eyed soul. One of their most influential hits “Jenny Take A Ride” combined Little Richard's "Jenny Jenny" and Chuck Willis' "C.C. Rider." Known for its raw intensity, the band’s music had a considerable influence on the songwriting of Bob Seger.

BADFINGER
Welsh act Badfinger was recognized as one of the most talented British bands of the late 60’s and the first in the power pop genre. They released several hit singles under The Beatles’ label Apple Records.

IRON BUTTERFLY
Known for the 17-minute psychedelic epic "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," Iron Butterfly was often considered the first heavy metal band. The group was also one of the first hard rock groups to receive widespread radio airplay.

DENNY LAINE
As the lead singer of the Moody Blues, Denny Laine was one of the most identifiable British singers during the pinnacle of the British invasion. He later formed the Denny Laine String Band before joining Paul McCartney in the successful super group Wings.

MELANIE
Melanie was the Woodstock performer most strongly linked to the “flower power” movement later in her career. Her most successful single “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” paid homage to the festival’s audience.
